Hiking in Vent

Top-level hiking pleasures

Vent makes a perfect base and starting point for memorable hiking holidays. Staying at our secluded little mountain village means you can take full advantage of all modern amenities, and you reach the hiking routes and mountain refuge huts within a short time thanks to Vent's unrivaled high altitude location at 1900 meters above sea level. Mountain huts are within easy reach without exhausting ascents below the timberline. Vent and its nearby mountaineering area offer uninterrupted panoramic views and landscapes of awesome natural beauty. The choice is really varied - ranging from leisurely hut hikes, peak tours to the Eastern Alps' highest summits, high elevation trails and many silent routes off the beaten tracks in close vicinity to Vent.

Vent deeply rooted in history
Vent is the oldest settlement in the Ötztal Valley, and was first mentioned in historical documents in 1241. The first permanent settlers and shepherds came from South Tyrol. Still today, the deeply rooted sheep drive from South Tyrol to the pasturelands of Vent takes place in early summer. Close to Vent you also find the site where "Ötzi" - the 5300 year old iceman was discovered, a truly unique highlight of contemporary history. Franz Senn, the so called glacier priest and co-founder of the German Alpine Club (1869), was one of the Alpine pioneers by promoting the construction of refuge huts, new mountain trails and secured hiking routes. Mountaineering was his passion and Vent has still maintained his enthusiasm. The scenic Rofenhöfe farms (2014m) rank among the highest, permanently settled farms in the Eastern Alps. Passionate nature explorers should not miss out on a walk over the magnificent suspension bridge leading to the Rofenhöfe farms. Also the renowned Via Alpina long-distance hiking trail travels past the unique mountaineering village, as well as the superb Central Alps Trail No. 02 leading from the Danube valley in the east across the main Alpine ridge to the Rhine valley in the west.
